Instructor Courses

The purpose of the Camp Canoeing Instructor Course is to provide a provincial certification of competence in the instruction and administration of the ORCKA Basic Canoeing Levels 1 - 3 and the Safe Canoeing Program at the waterfront of an OCA member youth camp.

Prerequisites:

• Basic Level 4 or comparable skills

• At least 16 years old

Course Length: 3 days

The purpose of the Basic Canoeing Instructor Course is to provide a provincial certification of competence in the instruction and administration of ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level Courses.

Prerequisites:

• Basic Level 4 or comparable skills

• At least 16 years old

Course Length: 5 days

The purpose of the Canadian Style Paddling Instructor 1 Course is to provide a provincial certification of competence in the administration and instruction of the ORCKA Canadian Style Paddling Level 1 Canoeing Program.

Prerequisites:

• Canadian Style Paddling 2

• At least 18 years old

Course Length: 5 days

The purpose of the Canadian Style Paddling Instructor 2 Course is to provide a provincial certification of competence in the administration and instruction of ORCKA Canadian Style Paddling programs and courses.

Prerequisites:

• Canadian Style Paddling 3

• At least 18 years old

Course Length: 5 days

The purpose of the Camp Canoe Tripping Instructor (CCTI) is to provide a provincial certification of competence in the instruction and administration of the ORCKA Canoe Tripping Level 1 Course Program. The Camp Canoe Tripping Instructor Course will be confined to use in OCA member youth camp(s).

Prerequisites:

• At least 16 years old

• Basic Level 4 or comparable skills

• Be OCA LIT or CIT qualified

• A trip log showing:

  • At least 15 nights of wilderness canoe tripping experience

  • Wilderness canoe tripping distance of at least 200km

  • At least three canoe trips in which the candidate was responsible for some of the organization and leadership

  • At least one wilderness trip of four days or more

Course Length: 5 days

The purpose of the Canoe Tripping Instructor 1 Course is to provide a Provincial certification of competence in the administration and instruction of ORCKA Canoe Tripping Level 1 Canoeing Program.

Prerequisites:

• Canoe Tripping Level 3

• At least 18 years old
