Canoe Tripping Courses
Canoe tripping courses cover the skills required to safely and responsibly participate in, and eventually organize and lead wilderness canoe trips. Canoe Tripping Level 3 provides the provincially recognized certification in trip organization, leadership, risk management and emergency response.
Safe Canoe Tripping
Safe Canoe Tripping is a theory course that provides first time canoe trippers with basic safety and information about canoe tripping.
Prerequisites: None
Course Length: 5 hours
Canoe Tripping Level 1
Canoe Tripping Level 1 provides an introduction to canoe tripping for those with little or no tripping experience.
Prerequisites: Basic Canoeing Level 1 or comparable skills
Course Length: 16 hours plus a minimum of a 1 night canoe trip
Canoe Tripping Level 2
Canoe Tripping Level 2 provides the experienced canoe tripper with the opportunity to improve his/her canoe tripping skills under more challenging conditions.
Prerequisites:
Canoe Tripping 1 or comparable skills
Basic Canoeing Levels 1-4
Optionally River Running or Moving Water Level 1A (tandem)
Course Length: 16 hours plus a minimum of a 2 night canoe trip
Canoe Tripping Level 3
Canoe Tripping Level 3 (Trip Leader) is to provide a Provincial certification of competence in the planning and leadership of wilderness canoe trip expeditions.
Prerequisites:
Canoe Tripping Level 2 or comparable skills
Canadian Style Paddling 1A (tandem)
River Running or Moving Water 1A (tandem)
At least 17 years of age or older
A trip log showing:
At least 25 nights of wilderness canoe trip experience
Wilderness canoe tripping distances totalling at least 500 km
At least 6 canoe trips in which the candidate was responsible for some organization and leadership
At least one canoe trip of 5 days or more
Course Length: 16 hours plus a minimum of a 3 night canoe trip
